PESHAWAR: Young doctors boycotted OPD and indoor service in Hayatabad Medical Complex while the hunger strike camp continued for 24th consecutive day near Provincial Assembly premises.
The hunger strike camp was led by President of Young Doctor Association Dr Gulab Noor Afridi and patron-in-Chief Dr Alamgir. The protesting doctors shifted their injured colleague from Hayatabad Medical Complex to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. The young doctors boycotted OPD services and other indoors services of the hospital.
The protesting doctors were of the view that their boycott and hunger strike camp would continue until their demands were not fulfilled. They said that despite repeated demands for the compensation of the deceased doctor Murataza and Dr Faisal family, the government clearly refused that they were not permanent employee of the hospital.
They said that all teaching hospital of Peshawar were affiliated with Post Graduate Medical Institute Peshawar but the government has abolished this body which was imparting training and diplomas to the doctors.
They added that for the first time the registration of teaching hospital is at stake and Pakistan Medical and Dental council may cancel their registration. This process will also affect the registration of doctors who are working in these teaching hospitals. To counter this issued the government striking a deal with Al-Razi Medical College to affiliate these hospitals with this medical college.
They said that until compensation to Doctor Murtaza family and restoration of post graduate medical institute in its true sense, the young doctor’s strike will be continue and no could force them on duty to provide services in the hospitals.
On the other hand patron-in-Chief of Young Doctors Association Dr Alamgir said that 13 doctors have been injured in police baton charge and their boycott would be continue in all three major hospital of the city. He said that there was complete boycott from OPD and emergency services in Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar on Thursday.
He said that doctors are busy in medical treatment of their colleague and their strike will gain momentum when their colleagues discharged from the hospital.
