PTI appoints three regional presidents

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan finally appointed three regional party organizers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however, the party is yet to name the president for Hazara Region.

Notification of three regional presidents was issued a day before the Tahreek-e-Ehtisab Rally which was held on Sunday. According to the notification Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Public Health Engineering Shah Farman has been appointed president for Peshawar region, PTI MPA Mehmood Khan for Malakand region and Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur for southern region.

President for the Hazara region has not been finalized so far, however, a PTI official wishing not to be named, said that two names including Senator Azam Swati and PTI member Ali Asghar were under consideration for the regional president of Hazara region.

He said that Ali Asghar name was finalized but some senior PTI leaders in the central cabinet and party had raised question opposing the appointment of Ali Asghar and his nomination was cancelled at the eleventh hour.

He said that Senator Azam Swati was the expected candidate for the vacant regional presidentship. The source said they were expecting Fazal Khan for Peshawar region, Ali Asghar for Hazara, Dr Amjid Khan for Malakand and Sahib Gul Khattak for Southern region but when the names were made public they were all surprised with the decision.

He said that all three candidates appointed for the regional party positions in the province were the close allies of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak.

However, the party chairman Imran Khan after consultation with other senior party members finally issued the appointment of Shah Farman, Ali Amin Gandapur and Mehmood Khan.
