KARACHI: As many as 4,553 bogus and politically-motivated appointments in the Sindh’s education and literacy department have been regularized in old dates, putting an extra burden on the provincial kitty, Daily Times has learnt.

According to sources, the influential mafia of the Sindh education department and the Accountant General Sindh have got regularized the services of thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff by greasing palms of senior authorities. “Many fake persons got their salaries activated or got it managed without any justification each month showing two or more years’ of service without any justification.”

The sources said that the role of MR Muslim, the In charge Computer Section, and his relative, Ejaz, may be ascertained and grilled to unearth the truth, as to how without any justification many persons got their salaries and other bills computerized.

This is a serious issue which should to be pondered upon. As such all the cases of new entries of salaries since 2007 may be provided with full justification including approval of competent authority, verification of recommendation and approving authority DRC recommendations etc, sources added.

The salaries of fake and bogus appointees of the year 1998/1999 are activated, even computerized, without any justification and above the law by the staff encouraging criminal elements of the education department to inflict loss to the exchequer, the sources went on to say.

Interestingly, more than 103 fake and bogus persons got orders in their favor from Sindh Service Tribunal on which the Government preferred to appeal in the Supreme Court but despite that the AG Sindh staff has been releasing their salaries.

When contacted, Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mahtab Dahar told Daily Times that he had received number of complaints regarding release of salaries to bogus appointees.

“The secretary, special secretary and additional secretary are abroad and we would order proper investigation into the matter after these officers return back “, he added.
