NAB decides to wrap up corruption probe against ex-Sindh CM

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to wrap up the corruption inquiry against former chief minister Sindh, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, and has decided to initiate a corruption inquiry against the sitting MNA, Syed Iftikharul Hassan.

NAB also decided to start an investigation against Kamran Kyani ,younger brother of former army chief Ishfaq Pervaiz Kayani, who is alleged of of being a willful loan defaulter of Rs 165.370 million.

NAB has also decided to close the corruption enquiry against the CDA officer who allegedly allotted 12 school plots at a minimum price. The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the Chairmanship of Mr Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB at te NAB Headquarters in Tuesday. The following decisions were made during the Executive Board Meeting (EBM).

The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to authorise seven (7) inquiries. The first inquiry was authorised against Syed Iftikharul Hassan, MNA, Sialkot. In this case, the accused person is alleged of accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.

The second inquiry was authorised against officers/official of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) and others.

In this case, the accused persons are alleged of misuse of authority in relaxing the tax regime for some service providers. This caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.

The third inquiry was authorised against the Management of M/s Power Pack. In this case, the accused persons are alleged of a willful loan default of Rs. 165.370 million. The case has been referred by the State Bank of Pakistan under Section 31-D. Maj (R) Kamran Kiyani, is the sole proprietor of the sanctioned loan. The fourth inquiry was authorised against the officers/officials of the Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Management of Admore Gas Pvt Ltd (AGPL) and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged of misuse of authority for illegally awarding of contract worth billions of rupees to Admore Gas Private limited (AGPL).

The fifth inquiry was authorised against the management of PPL, for selling a plot measuring 3510 square yards in Civil Lines Quarters Karachi, at less than the market rates, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.

The sixth inquiry was authorised against Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, former Advisor to the CM, Sindh. In this case, the accused person is alleged of accumulating assets beyond the known sources of income.

The seventh inquiry was authorised against Parveen Naeem Shah, Vice Chancellor (VC) Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Sindh and others. In this case, the accused persons are alleged of a Suspicious Transaction Report forwarded by the FMU of the State Bank of Pakistan under Section 31-D. The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) also approved the Voluntary Return (VR) application of Rs. 2.17 million by Ch. Muhammad Shahid Mehmood, a contractor, in a case of inquiry against Haroon Khan, Ex-Executive Engineering, Upper Jhelum Canal, Gujrat Division, Irrigation Department and others. The EBM decided to close the inquiry against the officers/officials of the CDA Islamabad and others as well as an inquiry against Mian Muhammad Latif (Ex-Director of Bank of Punjab), CEO, M/s Chenab Ltd & Group of companies, Lahore/ Faisalabad and other and inquiry against Dr. Ziaur Rehman, Ex-Chief Executive, Ayub Medical Institute, Abbotabad.

The EBM also closed a complaint verification (CV) against Arbab Ghulam Rahim, ex-chief minster Sindh and others due to lack of incriminating evidence.
