LAHORE: A 35-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan over some domestic issue in Mughalpura on Tuesday, raising the tally of suicides to over 30 in this year so far.
The deceased has been identified as Nadeem, resident of Dars Bara Mian, Mughalpura. On the day of incident, Nadeem locked himself in a room after quarreling with his family members over some domestic issue and hanged himself with a ceiling fan. Upon being informed, police reached the spot and broke the door only to find the hanging dead body. The body was sent to a morgue.
A senior psychiatrist said suicide was a multi-dimensional disorder, which resulted from a complex interaction of biological, genetic, psychological and environmental factors. He added that approximately one million people in the world commit suicide every year. “This represents one death every minute, almost 3,000 deaths every day, and one suicide attempt every three seconds,” he informed.
On August 6, a man committed suicide by shooting himself after killing his wife over some unknown issue in Defence Housing Authority. The deceased couple was identified as Qamar, a driver by profession, and his wife Kishwar, who worked in a local beauty parlour of the area. On the day of incident, police received a radio message about the incident and reached the spot where the deceased couple’s son 10-year-old Rajab informed that his parent quarrelled over some issue.
On August 3, two people, including a retired government employee, committed suicide by shooting and hanging themselves in different areas of the city.
In the first incident, a 70-year-old retired government official committed suicide by shooting himself in his house in Iqbal Town. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Aslam, father of four, resident of Rachna Block, Iqbal Town. According to police and rescue officials, the victim was present in his house courtyard where he committed suicide by shooting himself over some unknown issue.
In the second incident, a 20-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan in Sherakot area. The deceased was identified as Hassan Raza. On the day of incident, Raza locked himself in a room over some unknown issue and committed suicide by hanging himself.
On August 2, a retired army major was found dead mysteriously in his house at Askri 5, Naseerabad. The deceased army major was identified as 55-year-old Shahid. Police said the retired major was found dead in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in his head. Police also recovered a pistol on the spot lying near his dead body. According to police, the incident initially seemed like a suicide case but after thorough investigation, some important evidence was collected from the spot, which was shifted to the forensic lab for ascertaining the real cause of incident.
On July 29, dead body of a Kinnaird College student was found in a local hotel at The Mall. The deceased girl was identified as Rabia Naseer, resident of Batapur area and cricket team captain of her college. On the day of incident, Rabia went to the hotel washroom and shot herself in the head over some unknown issue. The Race Course SHO said that pistol, bullets and gun magazine were found in her bag.
On July 20, two young students of BA and FSC committed suicide by hanging themselves with ceiling fans in different areas of the city. In the first incident, a student of BA, Zaman Khan of Rahim Yar Khan, living in a rented quarter situated at Model Colony, Firdous Market, committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan over some unknown issue. Similarly, a student of FSC also committed suicide by hanging himself with ceiling fan in his house at Ahata Bibi, Misri Shah.
The deceased was identified as Mustasab, son of an anti-corruption employee. Police said that victim was upset over some issue for last few days but abstained from sharing it with his family members. On the day of incident, Mustasab locked himself in his room and committed suicide by himself with a ceiling fan.
Also, on June 11, a 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after shooting her lover in Kot Lakhpat area.
