KARACHI: The station owners of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the metropolis have started selling CNG in litres despite Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) categorical warnings on Thursday.
The CNG station were open late in morning not in time due dispute over measurement formula. OGRA Spokesman told Daily Times that the strict action will be taken against all violators according to law. OGRA also conducting surprise inspections and teams are examining the situation on ground. All violators will be dealt under the OGRA law, the spokesman said.
Any CNG Station charging other than the OGRA notified rates is illegal and action shall be taken against violators as per law, the spokesman warned. Consumers have complaints about the price hike in different CNG stations in the metropolis. One errant consumer informed that “CNG stations in city were charging extra money of Rs50 per filling of one tank and misguiding us.”
CNG consumers waited hours in long queues for filling of their tanks. Over fifty percent of CNG stations have changed weighing measurement from kilogram to litre.
The members of CNG Station Owners Association of Pakistan (CNGSOAP) have closed down there CNG stations due to the litre -kilogram issue. “None of our members are selling CNG in litres because, the association always follow OGRA’s decisions. We have shown interest to purchase RLNG and Our approval pending in the concerned office for this purpose,” told The Chairman of CNGSOAP, Malik Khuda Buksh to Daily Times.
“Our association members will sell CNG in kilograms from Saturday as per OGRA guidelines,” he informed.
He further said that one kilogram of CNG is 1000 grams while litre is only 652 grams.
Experts said that litre will give CNG consumers low mileage as compared with the kilogram mile.
