Cynthia Ritchie avoids appearing before court in defamation cases

Cynthia D Ritchie on Monday did not appear before the court where she was summoned to appear in-person in two separate cases pertaining to defamation and contempt of court.

Senator Rehman Malik had filed a suit for recovery of 500 million rupees against Cynthia D Ritchie on account of defamation for levelling false and defamatory allegations against him. The court of district judge was pleased to admit the suit for regular hearing and summoned Ritchie to appear in the court on Monday. The court keeping in view the substance in the suit had also issued a stay order and restrained defendant from making or issuing any defamatory statement during pendency of suit. But, Ritchie violated the court order and again issued defamatory statements upon which an application for initiating contempt proceedings against her. The court took serious notice of violation of stay order and issued notice to Cynthia to appear and face contempt proceedings.

The notices were served upon her in main case as well as contempt proceedings were fixed in the court but Ritchie avoided to appear. The court has adjourned the suit for Sept 8.

In another case of defamation, the court has summoned Cynthia Dawn Ritchie for July 27 as Senator Rehman Malik has also sued her of 20 billion rupees over levelling false allegations against him regarding Benazir Bhutto.
