161,000 Covid-19 patients  recovered; tally hits 253,000

Pakistan’s coronavirus recoveries have crossed 161,000 after 5,217 more people recovered in the last 24 hours. According to the government’s Covid-19 portal, the total number of recovered people has risen to 161,917.

Karachi registered 312 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to a statement issued from the Chief Minister House – the city’s lowest single-day total of new infections in over two months. The last time the metropolis had reported this low a daily figure of new cases was on May 6, when it recorded 339 infections. Daily cases have been on the decline in Karachi, the country’s worst-affected city, since last month, when it reported daily numbers well above 2,000 cases.

Another 1,089 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Sindh, taking the provincial tally to 106,622, according to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The province also recorded 31 new deaths, with its overall death toll from the virus rising to 1,826. A total of 8,929 tests were carried out during the last 24 hours, Shah said.

A doctor of Civil Hospital Umarkot died because of coronavirus and this is the first death of a doctor due to the virus in District Umarkot. According to DHO Umarkot Dr Allah Dad, Dr Abdul Razzaq was deployed at Cardiology Department of Civil Hospital. He tested positive 12 days ago and was isolated at his house.

Punjab has reported 487 new coronavirus cases, according to the government’s Covid-19 portal, taking the provincial tally to 87,043. The province also reported seven additional fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,013. According to the portal, 58,023 people have recovered from the virus in the province so far. Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad jammu and Kashmir have collectively recorded 133 new coronavirus cases and two fatalities. The breakdown is as follows: Islamabad: 85 cases, one death, GB: 13 cases, AJK: 35 cases, one death.
