Pakistan reports 77 deaths by coronavirus, 2,691 cases in a day

Pakistan has confirmed 77 deaths in a single day by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 234,509 and the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 4,839.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 2,691 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

Till now 96,236 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 82,669 in Punjab, 28,236 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10,841 in Balochistan, 13,557 in Islamabad, 1,587 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,383 in Azad Kashmir. Furthermore 1,899 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 1,572 in Sindh, 1,038 in KP, 124 in Balochistan, 140 in Islamabad, 30 in GB and 36 in Azad Kashmir.

Patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available.

Pakistan has so far conducted 1,445,153 coronavirus tests and 24,577 in last 24 hours. 134,957 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 2,306 patients are in critical condition. The Sindh chief minister said on Tuesday that 1,388 more people had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, raising the provincial tally to 97,626. In a statement issued from the CM House, the chief minister also said that 42 more people had died from the virus in the last 24 hours. The death toll in the province now stands at 1,614. Meanwhile, 706 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in Punjab in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the province to 82,669. According to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, 15 more people died due to complications related to the virus, taking the death toll in the province to 1,899. More than 47,000 patients have been cured of the disease in the province. A total of 540,365 tests have been conducted in the province thus far. It is pertinent to mention here that the country reported 2,691 coronavirus cases and 77 deaths over the past 24 hours, pushing the national tally of infections to 234,508 and casualties to 4,839. Also, as many as 215 policemen got infected with novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the past three days, taking the total number of cops diagnosed with the disease so far to 1,885. A spokesperson for the Sindh police, sharing latest data of the personnel affected by the infection, said 16 policemen have thus far succumbed to the highly contagious contagion. Fourteen of the victims hailed from Karachi while the two belonged to Hyderabad. 1,423 cops are undergoing treatment while 446 have recuperated from the disease.
