KARACHI: Long awaiting bulk water supply project K-IV providing 260 MGD water for Karachities, is being launched today by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and D.G FWO Mohd Afzal here at M-9 Super Highway near DHA today (Sunday).
According to the Sindh government and Frontier Works Organization (FWO), spokesman executing this project after agreement with Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) with a cost of Rs 15.254 billion will cater the need of the half of the population of metropolitan next 50 years Major Hussain told Daily Times.
He also said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah is a vibrant leader, who has achieved this task before as former Provincial finance Minister to carry out this project of K-IV. The demand of water for metropolitan has been reached to 1,100 MGD, but the provided scarcely is about 400 to 450 MGD daily.
Under the K-IV project the Total cost of the project is Rs 25.5 billion and it would be completed in three phases, in the first phase 260MGD water supply from Keenjhar Lake will be pumped through heavy water pumps to the designation.
In the Second phase another 260MGD will be supplied and at the third and final phase about 130MGD water scheme will be launched in 2020 Daily Times learnt.
As for the total cost of this project which was estimated to be around Rs25 billion and its first package was the building of intake structure, canal conduit, siphons and converters among other important things; the first phase’ cost was around Rs 15.3 billion sources told.
