Twin cities ready to celebrate I-Day

RAWALPINDI: The 69th Independence Day of Pakistan will be celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm in Rawalpindi.

Different functions will be held at the government and the private levels all over the city and security and stringent traffic arrangements have been made on this count.

A complete ban has been imposed on holding ceremonies in connection with the Independence Day in open places.

The Regional Police Officer, Wasal Fakhar Sultan Raja, has directed the DPOs and the CPO Rawalpindi, to ensure thr implementation of Punjab government’s orders, banning the holding of functions in open air. Pickets will also be set up in collaboration with the traffic police to check one wheeling.

Rawalpindi city has been divided into 11 sectors under a special security and traffic plan and over 2500 police officers and police men will be deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Ladies police, Elite force jawans, warden officers, inspectors and junior wardens will also be deployed.

Special pickets have been set up at 54 different places on the exit points of Rawalpindi city and the district and traffic police will perform joint duty therein.

Special squads have been set up to take action against one wheelers and car skating. They will set up barriers and take action against one wheeling. Cases will be registered against one wheelers immediately. A “Muhafiz Squad” will conduct round the clock patrolling in the city.

The vehicles of under-age drivers will be locked up in the police stations. Barriers will be established at all the entry and exit points of Rawalpindi and special checking will be made. Special focus will be ensured around hotels and inns. Those found involved in aerial firing will be proceeded against under the laws. No one will be allowed to take the law into one’s hands.

Over 1000 police officers and staff have been deployed to ensure foolproof security arrangements in Murree. A ban has been imposed on parking media vehicles at the GPO chowk. Media houses representatives have been asked to inform the local police or the traffic police in advance about their arrival in Murree.

An announcement has been made to hold 207 different functions at the divisional level on this occasion. As many as 71 functions including Naat Khawani, national songs, freedom walks, musical and dramas shows, will be held in Attock. 63 functions will take place in Jhelum, 23 in district Chakwal and 50 in district Rawalpindi.
