RIO DE JANEIRO: Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna failed to give India its first medal of the Rio Olympics when they lost the tennis mixed doubles bronze medal match on Sunday.

The Indian fourth seeds were on the receiving end of a 6-1, 7-5 defeat from Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic.

Mirza and Bopanna had lost in the semi-finals on Saturday to Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram of the United States.

It was a third tennis bronze medal in Rio for the Czechs after Petra Kvitova in women’s singles and Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova in the women’s doubles.
