PESHAWAR: Police nabbed a couple on Monday who allegedly sold their infant girl for Rs 100,000 in Peshawar.
Sources said that the police arrested the couple from Peshawar on charges of selling their infant daughter for money. The police claimed that the couple had been arrested after a tip-off had been obtained by a gang member who had been arrested earlier. The couple would be presented at the court.
Last week, the police had busted a gang of seven people, which included five women and two men, who kidnapped newborns from hospitals and sold them for Rs 70,000 – Rs 300,000. The police had claimed that the arrested suspects also included lady health workers.
Investigation into the matter had revealed that the kidnappers would hand over dead babies to parents. The arrested couple had already sold 10 babies before getting arrested, out of which one had been recovered by police.
