ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to form a new task force for the monitoring and implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), which will be headed by National Security Adviser Lt Gen (r) Nasir Janjua.
The new task force – which consists of 29 wings of the civil armed forces – was reportedly formed on Monday after due consultation with the political and military leadership. The force will not only work for internal and external security but also be responsible for border management. It would have the representatives of the federal and provincial governments, as well as the intelligencia.
According to details, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on security, which was attended among others by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minster Ishaq Dar, National Security Adviser Lt Gen (r) Nasir Janjua and Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. Matters regarding internal security, ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb, implementation of the NAP and cybercrime bill came under discussion during the meeting. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan briefed the meeting on the pace of implementation on the NAP.
The meeting decided that the federal interior secretary, the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) director general, chief secretaries, home secretaries and IGs of the four provinces would be members of the force, which will also get intelligence support from all the civil and military intelligence agencies.
