Coronavirus tally nears 188,000; 73,471 patients recovered so far

The nationwide tally of Covid-19 patients soared to 187,432 on Tuesday, with 68,308 cases reported in Punjab, 72,656 in Sindh, 23,388 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9,587 in Balochistan, 1,326 in Gilgit Baltistan, 11,219 in Islamabad and 892 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The virus has claimed at least 3,731 lives while around 73,471 coronavirus patients have recovered so far.

Two more people have died of Covid-19 in Balochistan, raising the province’s death toll to 106. Health officials also reported 47 new cases of coronavirus to take the tally to 9,634. As many as 3,694 patients have so far recovered in the province.

Balochistan reported a daily decline in the number of Covid-19 cases for the third time, according to the provincial health department. “About 112 cases of Covid-19 cases were reported in the province on Monday, 147 cases were reported two days ago and 166 cases of coronavirus surfaced three days ago,” the Balochistan health department highlighted.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday shared on Twitter that he has tested negative for coronavirus, almost two weeks after going into self-quarantine due to the highly contagious Covid-19 disease. He thanked all those who prayed for his swift recovery.

Actor Rubina Asharf has recovered from the coronavirus, the actor’s husband Tarir Mirza said on Tuesday. Mirza added, the actor’s coronavirus test had come back as negative.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has confirmed 12 more fatalities due to Covid-19 to bring the provincial death toll to 855. Four deaths were reported from Peshawar, three in Swat, two in Nowshera, and one each in Mansehra, Hangu and Karak. They also confirmed 755 new cases – 53 via Int’l flights – to take then province’s total to 23,388. With 3,142 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, the total rises to 131,247. As many as 2,516 patients were marked as recovered. “There was a backlog of one month which was adjusted after our guidelines for recovered patients were changed and a data verification exercise was held to confirm the status of these patients,” the health department said in a statement.

Health officials in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have confirmed one more casualty due to coronavirus to bring the state’s death toll to 23. They also reported 23 new cases in the 24 hours to raise the tally to 892. As many as 366 patients have recovered while active cases stand at 503 in the region.

AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan said that facilities of intensive care units (ICUs) are being provided in all public hospitals, Radio Pakistan reported. Presiding over a high-level meeting of health authorities and state administration in Muzaffarabad, he said that coronavirus testing capacity is also being enhanced in the territory.

As per a statement issued by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday, 1,564 new cases were reported in the province in a day. This took Sindh total tally for infections to 72,656. He added that another 21 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours; taking the province’s death toll to 1,124. Moreover, around 1,357 people recovered from the infection.

Punjab health authorities reported 1,365 cases, raising the provincial tally to 68,308. At least 60 more persons succumbed to the virus and the province’s death toll stands at 1,495.
