Probe starts against 11 tax evaders

KARACHI: Authorities have started a detail and forensic investigation of around a dozen of tax evaders giving huge losses of billions to the exchequer, it is reliably learnt on Wednesday.

A team comprised of senior officials in the Director General of Intelligence and Investigation – Inland Revenue, Federal Board of Revenue have started a high-level probe against all tax evaders giving huge losses to national exchequer in billions, a source closed to the affairs told Daily Times. The Intelligence and Investigation, Inland Revenue, have started a detailed and complete forensic investigation against 11 big culprits that have evaded and have given loss of billions of rupees to the exchequer.

The investigation wing has asked the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to provide bank account details of the said evaders, while all the track record including customs documents, fake adjustment and refunds as well as other details were under scrutiny. In this regard, a high-level meeting was held at Large Tax Payer Unit (LTU) last week and it was decided to initiate a detail probe in to the affairs of 11 big tax evaders, the source informed.
