ISLAMABAD: The lives of around 72 judges and hundreds of lawyers are at risk due to absence of walkthrough gates and closed-circuit TV cameras at the Islamabad district courts.

The district administration had taken away the walkthrough gates and security cameras for repairing in July, and it was bound to reinstall the same within a week. However, despite a lapse of a month, the equipment has not been installed, which had endangered the lives of dozens of judges and hundreds of lawyers.

It is worth mentioning here that around 5,000 to 6,000 people visit the district courts everyday.

Talking to Daily Times, Islamabad District Bar Association President Syed Muhammad Tayyab said that dozens of judges and hundreds of lawyers were performing their duties at the courts, while thousands of people come there each day for the proceeding of cases.

“There are many loopholes in the security of the district courts, which need to be plugged in the aftermath of the Quetta incident. However, the administration is not paying any heed to the security of courts.”

On the other hand, security officials stated that they had deployed more than a hundred personnel for the security of judges and lawyers, along with the rapid response force officials, at the courts.

One of the officials said that lawyers were not cooperating with the security officials, especially those deputed at the entry gates.

“The security of the court will remain a big challenge until lawyers cooperate with the security officials,” he added.
