Burhan martyrdom a turning point in Kashmir freedom movement

ISLAMABAD: The Indian narrative of blaming Pakistan for funding the ongoing indigenous freedom movement of Kashmir has failed as the Kashmiri youth have turned to attain freedom at any cost. Indian barbarism be highlighted internationally and the Pakistani media has a great role to play for the purpose along with the Pakistan Government, the political parties and the civil society.

This was the consensus of the seminar on the “Current situation in Indian occupied Kashmir and role of media”, jointly organized by ‘Kashmir Post’ and Kashmir Resolution Forum at a local hotel. Sheikh Tajamul Islam, veteran Kashmiri intellectual and journalist, was the chief guest and the function was presided over by Altaf Ahmed Bhat CEO of Kashmir Post. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Parvaiz Rashid also attended the seminar to show solidarity with struggling Kashmiris. Senior journalists Afzal Butt, Mazhar Abbas, Shakeel Turabi, Javed Siddiq, Nawaz Raza, Matiullah Jan were prominent among the participants. The participants were of the view that martyrdom of Burhan Muzaffar Wani was a turning point for the Kashmiri freedom movement and it would now go towards a logical conclusion even after the brutalities of the Indian forces.

Addressing the seminar Senator Parvaiz Rashid said that the Indian claim of dubbing the Kashmiri freedom movement as a sponsored movement were nothing but the frustration of India due to the resolve the Kashmiri nation had shown. “The Kashmiri freedom movement is much earlier than the freedom movement of Indian people launched against Britishers then how can a movement be supported by a country which came into existence in 1947, decades after the movement started”, he maintained. The Kashmiri nation stood against the Dogra regime in early 1920 when Gandhi, Nehru and others on the platform of the Congress and Quaid-e-Azam and his accomplices on the platform of the Muslim League were starting their movement against the British, Parvaiz Rashid opined, adding that was talking its frustration as Kashmiris had exposed India’s ugly face. “Pakistan was and is an advocate of Kashmiris and if the lawyer himself is not fit and does not have proper facilities how can he fight a case”, he said, adding that Nawaz Sharif was resolved to first make the lawyer (Pakistan) fit and provide it all facilities, then take up the Kashmir issue forcefully on international forums.
