Efforts on cards to reopen 400 primary schools

MIRPURKHAS: Efforts were on cards to open the closed 400 primary schools in the district Mirpurkhas. The district education officer primary of Mirpurkhas said ghost teachers and other mafia members were creating hurdles in the way however so far about 50 closed primary schools have been opened.

The influential had covered the premises of these schools into autaq (meeting room) and cattle farms and students including girls were compelled to get their education from far flung areas, said Dr Wajid Ali Shah, while talking to this correspondent on Friday.

He said that he had appointed Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti as a focal person of the district to achieve the target of opening of 400 closed primary schools with the help of taluka officers and their staff. He disclosed that the teachers and lower staff associations of the primary section were resisting the campaign to open the closed primary schools as they were supporting the ghost teachers and other staff who have been getting their salaries for long time without discharging their duties.

He called Sindh Chief Minister and Education Minister and Secretary Education to take necessary action in this regard by imposing emergency in education department and ban the activities of so-called office bearers of teachers associations.

He requested the civil society and social workers to support him to face the mafia who were creating hurdles in his way to open the closed primary schools.

He asserted that his campaign of opening closed schools would continue till achieving the task in the district despite resistance of fake associations and their supporters.
