PESHAWAR: The first smart school has been set up in Lakki Marwat on a container with the support of the World Bank. According to the education department, the first school first of its kind costs Rs 12.5 millions. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in the Khyber Pakhtukhwa (PTI) has completed the pilot project of the first ever smart school in the poorest district of the Khyber Pakhtukhwa (KP).

As per the demand of the annual plan 2016-17 budget, the provincial government will establish 200 smart schools across the province in the most resilient and disaster hit areas. Elementary and secondary education minister Muhammad Atif Khan visited the site and appreciated the installation of the school and directed the department to further implement the pilot project in the whole province.

However, education department officials say the recommendations of the team of engineers and experts’ will be carried out next week. Speaking to Daily Times, Najiullah Khattak, the media adviser of the provincial government’s media cell said the schools will be established across the province to provide quality of education along modern lines.

He said that “the first smart school was established in Lakki Marwat and soon the tenders for other schools would be advertised for other 200 smart schools.” The provincial government has planned in the on-going budget to reach disaster-hit areas such as Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Shangla, Kohistan , Torghar and Lakki Marwat with these schools.

According to Khattak, smart schools will be unlike normal government schools; rather, it could be easily shifted from one place to another if needed and will also be equipped with all modern facilities for students to learn with efficient way.

The school, he said would be capable of producing its own electricity through solar system so the long hour load shedding in certain areas would not interrupt the learning activities of the students.
