LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood ur Rashid said that the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab calls for the deployment of Rangers throughout the province and added that the provincial government has failed to provide security to the citizens as target killing is rampant in the province.

He expressed these views while speaking on a point of order in Punjab Assembly on Monday. He was talking on the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker Mirza Tanvir Baig who was killed by unidentified motorcyclists two days ago near Shahalam market in broad-day light.

Tanvir was a candidate for the slot of chairman from Union Council- 33 on a ticket of Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf (PTI) and he was the main complainant in a case of double-murder in which two PTI workers were killed last year during local government elections in a clash between Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and PTI in an area of Walled city of Lahore.

“More than 48 hours have passed but the culprits haven’t been arrested yet. Where are the tall claims of good governance made by the Punjab government”, leader of the opposition questioned and demanded the deployment of Rangers in the province as the incidents of child kidnapping have also increased manifold this year. The opposition staged a walk-out after chanting anti-government slogans and speaker instructed provincial minister for Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu to persuade the opposition to come back to the house.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said that it is wrong to give a notion of target killing on the basis of just a single murder that was a result of personal enmity. “Unfortunately, such incidents are occurring in the society because our democratic system is still evolving,” law minister said while speaking on a point of order. Earlier in the day, 23rd session of Punjab Assembly was started with a delay of one and a half hour under the chair of speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan and the session will be continued for two weeks according to the tentative schedule.

Talking to media, Rana Sanaullah Khan said that Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri are working on the agenda of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to destabilise Pakistan. “India has allocated a huge sum of Rs 300 million against the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and both Imran and Qadri will get their shares from this amount,” he claimed.

According to Sana, more than one thousand combing operations were carried out in the Punjab during last six months against the terrorists and there will be thorough discussion on law and order and National Action Plan (NAP) in this session of Punjab Assembly.

Moreover, a resolution was unanimously passed to condemn the tragic incident of Quetta in which more than 70 people were killed including lawyers and journalists on August 8. Furthermore, another resolution was passed to pay homage to the great social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi who passed away on July 8 last month. Both the resolutions were jointly moved by the treasury and opposition benches.
