The members of Youth Action Committee (YAC) held a large protest demonstration at Jinnah Bagh on Wednesday against construction of dams over Indus River. The protesters were holding placards in their hands and were shouting slogans in favour of their just demand. They also observed token hunger strike for some time. They included YAC Chairperson Sindhu Nawaz Ghanghro, Suhail Bhutto, Sheeraz Chandio, Faraz Odho, Ruk Sindhi, Ashraf Kalhoro and others.

While talking to media persons, they said that constructing dams over Indus River is not only against international laws, constitution of Pakistan but it is also against Islamic laws.

They said Sindhi people have also not only rejected such dams in the past but have also condemned such acts in strongest possible words.

They said we still harshly condemn building of dams over Indus River hence such projects are not acceptable to people of Sindh at all.

They further said that about 11 canals have been made out of Indus River between 1839 to 1919 without consent of the people of Sindh due to which acute water scarcity is constantly faced in the Indus River adding if dams are constructed then once mighty Indus River will become dry which will ruin life in Sindh province.

They said we once again entirely reject construction of Bhasha Dam, Diya Mir Dam or any other dam over River Indus and demand of the powers that be that conspiracy to make Indus River dry must end forthwith or else, they warned, they will launch a massive struggle against such Sindh-enemy projects across the province. They also announced to hold next protest in Sukkur.
