Rehman Malik pooh-poohs Daily Times report

Author: Press Release

Senator A Rehman Malik has contradicted the contents of a story titled “As Rehman Malik heads for JIT, what is Zardari doing”, published in Daily Times on June 17, 2017. Calling the story an attempt to “damage the reputation of Senator A Rehman Malik and influence his appearance before JIT and to damage the proceedings of the JIT on Panama case”, a statement issued by the senator’s spokesman said that Rehman Malik had never said that his report on Hudaibiya was “not an FIA document but his personal property”.

“It must be mentioned that Senator A Rehman Malik has already owned the report and the letter he had written to then president of Pakistan.”

The statement said that Rehman Malik had done this investigation in official capacity, so the news that “his report is not an FIA document but his personal property” was baseless and part of a malicious propaganda against him.

Rehman Malik has confirmed his appearance before JIT on June 23 and he will appear on the said date and explain his position fearlessly on merit, it added.

According to the senator’s office, Rehman Malik received no dictations and guideline from his party and party leadership regarding his appearance before the JIT, as he, his party and his party leadership believed in merit. “Senator A Rehman Malik will welcome if any of his old colleague comes and assists the JIT.”

Through the statement, Rehman Malik requested everyone to stop “creating doubts on his appearance before the JIT”, adding that the nation would see him on the 23rd before the JIT – following merit and confirming his report.

“Appearance before JIT is Senator Rehman Malik[‘s] national duty, which will he perform on merit and will appear as former additional director general [of] FIA.”

It said that there was no truth in any news, as since June 9, Senator A Rehman Malik was out of country and had not interacted with any journalist, channel, newspaper or any media outlet. “Senator A Rehman Malik will inform the Supreme Court of Pakistan about the false propaganda against him” aimed at influencing the proceedings of the JIT, the statement concluded.
