ISLAMABAD: The police have refused to take any action on the complaints of eunuchs by saying that there was no provision in the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) regarding sexual abuse of transgenders.

When Daily Times contacted famous lawyer Hashmat Habib, he said that the police was telling a lie in the case as Section 377 of the PPC implies sexual abuse of any person.

Sometimes some aberrant activity might be committed with women also. The FIRs of these kind of cases are also registered under the section. “Under the law the police is liable to enter the case on the complaint of any citizen no matter he belongs to any sex, cast or breed or else action could be taken against the refusing police official,” the lawyer added.

This comes at a time when it has been revealed that collective molestation and looting valuables from eunuchs are on the rise throughout the country including the federal capital.

Eunuchs from Faisalabad, victims of gang rape and looting, have reached Islamabad to seek justice.

According to information obtained by Daily Times, a group of drunk bandits stormed the flat of transgenders identified as Nomi and Juli, residents of Millat Chowk Faisalabad, tortured and raped them and also looted their valuables including jewellery and costly mobile phone sets.

Nomi told Daily Times that she and her friend Juli shifted to Islamabad, after being threatened by leader of the bandit group Imran alias Mani, who terrorised them by warnings of throwing acid on them and burning them alive. She said that after the incident, when they approached the police station in their area, the police did not help them but mistreated and humiliated them by asking shameful questions.

“After intervention of Uzma, director of a NGO working for eunuchs, the police registered their complaint”, Nomi said, adding that they were forced to leave Faisalabad and were now taking shelter in Islamabad but the bandit group was still threatening them.

Nomi said that they had also filed an application at the Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad as the bandit group members had reached Islamabad and could harm them.

Honey, another transgender, told Daily Times that she had also been looted and gang raped in the past and was still deprived of justice.

Uzma, director of the NGO, also talked to Daily Times and informed about the miserable situation the transgenders were, in our society.

She said that hate crimes against eunuchs were increasing in our society which was an alarming situation. Uzma said that rape and looting incidents were happening with transgenders on a daily basis while some transgenders had been attacked and killed as well.
