KARACHI: A single bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday barred the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) from further demolishing an apartment building till further orders.
Justice Ahmad Ali .M. Shaikh passed the order on a petition filed by several residents of Nazimabad Star Residency issuing a strict warning to the director SBCA, Prevez Akhtar for demolishing a portion of the building without any court order.
The petitioners alleged that the said official had issued the demolition notice after they refused to grease his palm. The SBCA official could not satisfy the court on the legality of his action as he could not produce any court order in support of his act admitting that the whole exercise was carried out without any judicial proceedings.
The court expressed its displeasure on the extra-judicial act, and remarked that the SBCA official could be sent to jail for this illegal action. Later, the court issued a stay order barring the SBCA from taking any further action and adjourned the hearing till September 1, 2016.
