KARAK: The most dangerous and neglected tropical disease causes by a bite of an infected sand fly affected as many as 987 people from January 2016 till August, as per the record of District Health Department.
The official record revealed that out of 987 cases, 82 cases were reported in the month of August due to apathy of the provincial and district governments who did not fumigate the affected areas. An official of the district government said due to lack of concern by provincial and district governments, the disease of leishmaniasis was posing high threats from last three years, adding dengue was also being reported from the parts of districts.
He said that there was no proper arrangement for dengue patients at District Headquarters Hospital due to which an-11 year boy who was found dengue positive was referred to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar last day. The local people slammed the “Sehat Ka Insaf” program of the provincial government, saying that the people of far flung districts were still suffering due to insufficient facilities of health in their areas.
According to doctors, leishmaniasis is often reported from remote and unstable areas with limited resources, adding the disease can be life-threatening besides making life miserable for the patient.
