LAHORE: The provincial capital on Saturday morning received heavy rain which brought mercury down providing much-needed relief to the people during the fasting month. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city received 25mm rain. However, rain with dust storm is expected in next 24 hour in city, said the PMD. The maximum temperature of city was recorded as 29 degree Celsius. Besides the drop in temperature and pleasant weather, Lahoris faced severe problems due to rainwater accumulated in different areas of the city making it difficult for people to reach their destinations in time. Several areas, including the surroundings of the Lahore Railway Station, Circular Road, Do Morya Bridge, Garhi Shahu, Mcleod Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Davis Road, Gawalmandi, Nisbat Road, Abbot Road, Fruit Market, SamanAbad were inundated. The rainwater also caused massive traffic snarl-ups on several roads, including Allama Iqbal Road, Davis Road, Nicolson Road, Nisbat Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, Main Boulevard, Centre Point, Lower Mall, Chauburji, Lyton Road. Moreover, the rain tripped over 70 feeder of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). Following the rain, many areas of the city were without electricity. Meanwhile, the LESCO management issued directives immediately to restore power supply in different areas, especially those on the routes of Youm-e-Ali (AS) processions on an urgent basis.
