Access to Justice Programme ‘in jeopardy’ in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The “Access to Justice Programme” is in jeopardy in district Rawalpindi owing to traditional slackness and lack of interest on the part of the district police in sending challans of the cases to the courts.

During the first seven months of the current year challans of only 4247 cases out of 10203 registered cases were sent to the courts by all the 30 police stations of district Rawalpindi.

At City Police Station which is one among eight police stations of Rawal division, challans of 124 out of total 222 registered cases were sent to the courts during the period from January to July 2016.

At Ganjmandi Police Station complete challans of 136 out of 242 registered cases, incomplete challans of 39 cases and interim challans of 31 cases were sent to the courts. Challans of 11 cases were kept pending.

382 cases were registered at Ratta Amral Police Station. Complete challans of 165 cases, incomplete challans of 154 cases and interim challans of 50 cases were forwarded to the courts.

Out of 589 total registered cases at Police Station Pirwadhai, complete challans of 227 cases, incomplete challans of 231 cases and interim challans of 97 cases were sent to the courts.

Police Station New Town registered 555 cases while complete challans of 159 cases, incomplete challans of 97 cases and interim challans of 97 cases out of the total registered cases were sent to courts. Challans of 40 cases are put on hold.

Complete challans of 303 cases, incomplete challans of 84 cases and interim challans of 167 cases out of total 725 registered cases were sent by PStation Sadiq Abad to the courts. 93 challans were kept pending. Police Station Waris Khan sent complete challans of 364 cases, incomplete challans of 131 cases, interim challans of 111 cases out of total 679 registered cases to courts. Two cases were dismissed and six remained untraceable while 50 challans were kept pending.

Out of 263 registered cases, complete challans of 138 cases, incomplete challans of 54 cases and interim challans of 45 cases were sent by Police Station Banni to courts. Seven cases were rejected, four cases remained untraceable and 15 were kept pending.

Among 12 polices stations of Pothohar Division, Civil Lines Police Station registered 604 cases and it sent to courts complete challans of 248 cases, incomplete challans of 78 cases and interim challans of 162 cases. 67 cases were dismissed, eight remained non traceable and 41 were kept pending.

At Police Station Morgah, 212 cases were registered. Complete challans of 87 cases, incomplete challans of 30 cases and interim challans of 68 cases were sent to the courts. 11 challans were kept pending. As many as 629 cases were registered at Airport Police Station while complete challans of 287 cases, incomplete challans of 55 cases and interim challans of 187 cases were sent to the courts. 25 cases were rejected, 28 remained untraceable and 47 were kept pending.

Complete challans of 137 cases, incomplete challans of 22 cases, interim challans of 186 cases out of 391 cases registered at Police Station Cantt were forwarded to the courts. Two cases were rejected, 17 cases could not be traced and 27 were kept pending.

Out of a total of 334 registered cases, complete challans of 164 cases, incomplete challans of 71 cases, interim challans of 72 cases were sent by Racecours Police Station to the courts. 13 cases were rejected, 10 remained non traceable and five were kept pending.

At Police Station RA Bazaar, total 373 cases were registered and complete challans of 211 cases, incomplete challans of 86 cases, interim challans of 51 cases were sent to the courts. 19 cases were rejected and five were kept pending.

About 358 cases were registered at Police Station Naseerabad and out of them complete challans of 110 cases, incomplete challans of 103 cases, interim challans of 85 cases were sent to the courts. 16 cases were rejected, eight cases could not be traced and 36 were kept pending.

Police Station Westridge registered 262 cases while complete challans of 109 cases, incomplete challans of 70 cases and interim challans of 67 cases were sent to the courts. Three cases were rejected, six remained non traceable and two were kept pending.

At Police Station Taxila 385 cases were registered. Out of them, complete challans of 149 cases, incomplete challans of 87 cases and interim challans of 101 cases were filed in the courts. Nine cases were rejected, four cases could not be traced and 29 were kept pending.

As many as 303 total cases were registered at Police Station Wah Cantt. Out of which 149 cases were completed , 65 were incomplete, 60 interim challans were sent to the court whereas 15 cases were dismissed. Four cases were not traced out and 11 cases were pending. At Wah Saddar Police Station a total of 395 cases were registered out of which the investigations were completed and 99 remained incomplete. 77 interim challans were forwarded to the courts whereas nine cases were dismissed and 40 were kept in pending.

At the only woman police station in district Rawalpindi some five cases were registered out of which only one challan was sent to the court and four cases were cancelled.
