RAWALPINDI: Police have closed down several banks in the city due to inadequate security measurements besides issuing directives to the bank management to ensure erection of fences outside their respective banks.

The police have linked the public dealing in the banks to erection of fences.

City Police Officer (CPO), Israr Ahmad, visited several banks across the city on Friday and directed the bank authorities to suspend public dealing forthwith.

The police accompanying the CPO expelled the bank customers and shut down the gates of the banks. This state of affairs sent a wave of grave concern among the citizens.

The police has taken this step in the perspective of a robbery incident which had taken place two days earlier at Alfalah Bank in the jurisdiction of Westridge police as the bandits had not only looted Rs 20 million but they had also injured two security guards of the bank.

On the other hand the bank authorities condemned the police action and said that the CPO was not entitled to make any interference in the affairs of banks directly.

They said the banks were directly under the State Bank of Pakistan and were working under the policy evolved by the State Bank.

Seven police personnel sacked: CPO Israr Ahmad Khan Abbasi has sacked seven police personnel including one trainee ASI and two lady constables for holding fake educational certificates and other charges.

The CPO while deciding show cause notices awarded punishment to different police personnel. Lady constable Abida Khan and constables Atif, Tasawwar , Mohammad Tauqir and Anar Shah were dismissed from service for holding fake degrees and educational certificates. Trainee ASI Shahid Azad was terminated from service for being involved in a murder case.

Constable Faisal Rehman and lady constable Haleema Sultan were sacked for being absent from duty. ASI Khurram Shahzad has been demoted.

Fake inspector arrested: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a fake inspector for giving threats to a school principal in Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi.

Sources said that the school inspector had lodged a complaint with the local police that a suspect identified as Jameel Abbasi, resident of Gujjar Khan, claiming himself as an FIA inspector gave threats to him by interfering in his work, and also blackmailed him.

The FIA personnel conducted a raid and apprehended the suspect from Sadiqabad. During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed his crime while further investigation is under way.
