KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s two key leaders, Faisal Vawda and Imran Ismail, escaped an armed attack in Karachi on Friday.

They came under attack on Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road near Delhi Colony within the limits of Frere Police Station. Both Vawda and Ismail remained unhurt.

“Unidentified men opened fire on my car, but I am safe,” Vawda told journalists. Both were on the way home after returning from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office, when armed men opened fire on them.

“The gunmen were just a few metres away from my car,” said senior PTI leader Imran Ismail. Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) chief Raja Umar Khitab told a private TV channel that seven bullets were found at the spot where Vawda’s car came under attack. “The investigation team found four bullets of a submachine gun (SMG) and three bullets of 9MM pistol,” he told media men.

Heavy contingents of Rangers, police and law enforcement agencies rushed to the site to collect the evidences. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed Sindh Inspector General Police (IGP) AD Khawaja to investigate the incident and submit a report.

This is not the first time PTI leaders have come under attack. In 2013, ahead of re-polls in NA-250, PTI’s Zahra Shahid Hussain was killed at the main gate of her house in Defence Housing Authority Phase-IV.
