Rangers foil major terror bid

KARACHI: The paramilitary force – Rangers has claimed to have foiled a major terror an activity on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali (RA) in Karachi on Saturday by arresting active terrorists from the areas which have became most sensitive after the Jailbreak.

The terrorists were panning to carry out suicide attack at the central procession of Youm-e-Ali (RA) and had completed their homework.

The paramilitary troops arrested four militants of banned sectarian outfit Lashkare e Jhangvi from Orangi town and Baldia Town neighbourhoods in a metropolis. “The troops arrested them on intelligence based information,” said the Rangers spokesperson. “They were ready to attack the procession when troops arrested them.”

Rangers spokesman also claim to have recovered a suicide jacket, 15 kilogrammes explosives, 18 hand grenades, two kalashnikovs, seven pistols and a computer.

The spokesperson also appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in the war against terrorism and immediately inform Rangers if they notice any suspicious activity.

Strict security measures were taken in Karachi to protect, particularly the central procession of Youm e Ali (RA).

Besides Rangers and volunteers, as many as 5500 cops were deployed for the procession’s security while all the leading routes en-route to the main procession were sealed at the occasion while the procession was being monitored through the CCTV cameras and the DIGs and SSPs were asked by IGP Sindh Allah Dino Khowaja to themselves supervise the main processions in entire province. The government of Sindh has already imposed a ban on pillion riding in parts of the province incliding Karachi and Hyderabad on the recommendations of Sindh police for the day following security threats at the occasion.

On the other hand the security agencies are leaving no stone unturned to re-arrest the militant escaped from central jail because they have a strong network in the area of Orangi Town that why the intelligence agencies has speculated unpleasant incident in these areas.

It is pertinent to mention that two hardcore militants of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi – Shaikh Muhammad Mumtaz alias Firon alias Sher Khan alias Shahzad alias Bhai and Muhammad Ahmed Khan alias Muna were escaped from the Central Jail, Karachi late on Tuesday night.

The escaped militants belonged to the Hafiz Qasim Rasheed and Sabir Munna group of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. These groups are considered the most dangerous groups of sectarian militant outfits, who have been involved in various high profile terrorism cases. One of them Ahmed alias Muna was reportedly awarded 14 years imprisonment just few days earlier of his escape.
