PESHAWAR: The ongoing strike of the Young Doctors Association against the provincial government has landed in court after a lawyer submitted a contempt petition in the Peshawar High Court against the chief minister and Imran Khan for failing to make adequate legislation regarding health professionals.
The petition seeks action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak for not making legislation under the Essential Services Act to end the protests and strikes by doctors.
Advocate Shah Faisal Ilyas submitted in the plea that constant protests of doctors in the provincial hospital had adversely affected the delivery of health facilities to the visiting patients.
Earlier, the larger bench of the PHC in December 2015 had asked the provincial government to take pragmatic steps for the proper and long-term legislation under the Essential Services Act to stop the daily protests of doctors.
It was submitted that despite the apex court orders, the provincial government could not manage to make proper legislation in connection with the doctors’ service issues.
The petition sought legal action against Imran Khan and Pervaiz Khattak for not resolving health sector-related issues in the province.
