ISF appeals to CJP against CCB

PESHAWAR: Expressing grave concerns over the recently passed Cyber Crime Bill (CCB) by the Parliament of Pakistan, office bearers of Insaf Students Federation (ISF) have appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo motu action for nullifying the bill.

“There was no need of passage of the CCB as every institution has rules and regulations and punishment for violation of those laws” told Shahid Khattak, President, ISF Peshawar region while addressing a press conference on Monday here at the press club.

He said laws were present for those who harassed someone or committed contempt of court while the Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) had its own laws too but the imposition of the CCB was not necessary. He alleged that Prime Minister Main Nawaz Sharief and his cabinet members were afraid of the masses and they passed the bill.

Flanked by Ashfaq Marwat, ISF district Peshawar, Iqbal Dawar, President ISF Agriculture University Peshawar and Haseeb Khattak, President ISF Technical College Peshawar, Shahid also appealed to the legislatures belonging to three provinces including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh to unanimously pass a bill against the CCB.

He informed that one of his colleagues and a gold medalist student, Hasseb Khan, had updated a status on his (Haseeb) social media and was sentenced to 14 years for that status under the CCB law. He feared that the said bill would have dire consequences in the near future for users of social media.

He further appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Anwar Zaheer Jamali, to take tangible steps for the release of his colleague immediately. He maintained that Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan and the party law makers, had opposed the Cyber Crime Bill from the very beginning and in future they would make their efforts to unite all the opposition members of the parliament to get rid of the bill.
