ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has felicitated the elected mayors and chairmen who took oath of their offices across the province on Tuesday.
“Today begins a new era in the history of local governance. Those taking over the rein of local governments as elected representatives have chosen great responsibilities to serve citizens of their respective areas,” he said.
“From cleanliness to provision of civic amenities at the doorsteps of people, your performance should be more visible than in verbal form,” Bilawal said in his congratulation message to more than 200 mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen and vice chairmen of the local bodies who were sworn in simultaneously all over the province at public ceremonies.
Bilawal said that Sindh has achieved a local government system through party-based elections for the first time in decades. Besides the civic amenities, the new local bodies shall also act as nurseries of grassroots democracy to strengthen the democratic order with full public participation, he added.
He asked the newly elected officials to serve the people with dedication and devotion to create an image of local governance which is replicated and followed by their counterparts in other provinces.
