Waseem ‘Falcon’ Khan

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Muhammad Waseem, who is popularly known as Waseem ‘Falcon’ Khan and hails from Quetta, has fortunately become the first Pakistani boxer to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver flyweight title by defeating his much experienced opponent, Philippines’ Jether Olive after 12 consecutive rounds.

He prepared for the fight under famous trainer Jeff Mayweather at the boxing club of renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather Junior in Las Vegas. Jeff is the uncle of Floyd Mayweather Junior, one of the world’s greatest boxers of his time.

As an amateur boxer, he has won many medals and awards for Pakistan including a bronze and one silver medal in Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and a bronze medal in Asian Games as well. Sadly, he made a move to professional boxing after getting disheartened with the Pakistan Boxing Federation’s (PBF) negligence towards boxers. Now, Waseem ranks sixth in the flyweight category, just behind his latest opponent.

Now the Falcon namely Muhammad Waseem is looking to fly even higher, eyeing world’s best awards and we are proud that he has not only won a big title by brightening the name of his country but indeed the heart of every Pakistani.
