LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on September 1 will hold the preliminary hearing on a petition seeking cancellation of registration of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) as a political party.

Advocate Sardar Aftab Virk filed the petition. The petitioner stated that MQM chief Altaf Hussain was a British national and was running the party from abroad, which was a sheer violation of the Political Parties Registration Act.

He stated that it was mandatory for any political party to be patriotic but the MQM chief was involved in anti-Pakistan activities, adding that Altaf Hussain raised slogans against the country in his speeches, which was tantamount to attacking the sovereignty of Pakistan.

He stated that the recent speech of Altaf established that the MQM was more of a terrorist outfit than a political party and hence there should be complete ban on it. He stated that this speech was enough to prove that MQM was an anti-Pakistan political party and it should not be allowed to work.

He requested cancellation of registration of the MQM.

Eunuch’s petition dismissed: LHC Justice Abdul Sami Khan on Tuesday dismissed the petition of a eunuch, Resham, seeking action against police officials, accusing them of sexual harassment and money snatching.

The judge dismissed the petition, asking the petitioner to first approach the justice of peace, a lower court, for redressal of grievances.

Resham’s counsel submitted that some police officials of Nasirabad Police Station few days ago arrested the petitioner without giving any justification. He alleged that the petitioner was taken to a police station where she was detained.

He also alleged that the police snatched money from her, which the petitioner had collected through begging. He said that the petitioner moved an application before the concerned police officials for action against the accused, but to no avail. The counsel requested the court to direct the police take action against the accused officials.

In reply, a law officer of Punjab government submitted that the petitioner should have moved to the justice of peace first and after non-provision of justice from there, Resham could moved to the LHC.
