MQM to submit resolution against Altaf in NA

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar said Wednesday his party would table a resolution against Altaf Hussain in National Assembly.

Political observers say the announcement is a major move by MQM leadership in Pakistan since the majority of the party members, including Dr Sattar, disowned party supremo Altaf Hussain last week.

According to local media reports, MQM’s top leadership were finalising the content of the resolution for which consultations were underway within the party.

On the floor of the assembly’s next session in the federal capital, Muttahida would once again strongly condemn Altaf’s anti-Pakistan tirade, including other politicians of varying political parties who made such statements in the past.

Breaking off ties with MQM’s chief, another Muttahida leader Kunwar Naveed Jamil also distanced himself from Hussain on Wednesday and said that he not only now supports Sattar, but also his party policies.

In a separate development, an anti-terrorism court announced jail sentence to prison 44 Muttahida workers, including three party leaders, on judicial remand over their alleged involvement in attack on media houses in Karachi on August 22.

MQM leaders Shahid Pasha, Qamar Mansoor and MNA Kanwar Naveed as well as three women were among the 44 suspects presented in the court, which ordered investigative officer to present a challan within 14 days.

MQM leader Qamar Mansoor appealed that he was not taken to hospital despite court orders. He said he was ill and was being made to sit on the ground and requested that the court instructs prison authorities to take note of the matter.

The court, in response, asked Qamar Mansoor for a written request after which it would issue the order.
