Princess Anne and Mark Phillips – Prince Charles’ younger sister’s marriage to Mark Phillips endured a scandal when intimate letters written to Anne by one of the queen’s male aides, Timothy Laurence, leaked. She and Mark eventually divorced, making it the second royal divorce since Princess Margaret’s.
King Carl Gustaf Xvi of Sweden – the Swedish king was embroiled in scandal after a published book revealed he enjoyed “romps in seedy nightclubs,” which included orgies and naked jacuzzi parties.
Princess Margaret – Queen Elizabeth II’s sister married Tony Snowdon, much to the chagrin of her family. But after an abusive relationship caused Margaret to stray and begin affairs with other men, media slammed the royal as the unfaithful wife. She and Tony eventually divorced in 1978, which was the first royal divorce in 400 years.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – while Charles was married to Diana, he began an affair with Duchess Camilla. After Charles and Diana divorced, a tape of an intimate conversation between Charles and Camilla while they were both married to other people leaked, and the scandal that ensued is now referred to as tampon-gate.
“Oh god. I’ll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!” Charles joked on the phone call.
“What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers?” said Camilla. “Oh, you’re going to come back as a pair of knickers.” “Or, God forbid, a Tampax,” Charles responded. “Just my luck!”
