BUREWALA: PML-N candidate Ch. Muhammad Yousaf Kaselia on Wednesday won the by-election of PP-232 Gogu Mandi by defeating his rival PTI backed candidate Ayesha Nazir Jutt. According to unofficial results, Ch Muhammad Yousaf got 51,323 votes while his rival candidate Ayesha Nazir Jutt secured 50,267 votes. The turnout was recorded at 50 percent.
The total number of registered voters in the constituency was 191,092, of whom 109,181 were male voters and 81,911 women voters. The election process remained peaceful.
The PML-N also won the NA-63 seat after Raja Matloob won 82,896 votes against PTI candidate Fawad Chaudhry, who won approximately 74,819 votes. PPP’s Jahangir Mirza managed to secure a mere 4,907 votes. As many as 314 presiding officers, 976 assistant presiding officers and 976 polling officers supervised the election process. It is worthwhile to mention here that the seat fell vacant after the death of PML-N leader Malik Iqbal Mehdi who secured NA-63 seat by getting 11,6013 votes in the general elections of 2013. Four candidates including Raja Matloob Mehdi representing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jahangir Mahmood Mirza of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Chaudhary Fawad Hussain Pakistan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Dewan Hashmat Hayat of PML-Q were contesting the by-elections. Earlier, five candidates withdrew their nomination papers.
