The Sargodha University established a field hospital in its medical college, as the frontline health services become overwhelmed from the coronavirus pandemic over the coming weeks. The hospital has the capacity to house about 80 patients at least.

Vice Chancellor Sargodha University Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad along with the Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Abdullah Nayyar visited the hospital on Monday.

Dr Humaira Akram, the Principal Sargodha Medical College and Mubashar Tariq, the Director Implementation briefed the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Commissioner about the arrangements for medical and paramedical staff and all other facilities provided at the hospital. A high dependency unit will also work 24/7 in the hospital, they informed.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that Sargodha University is the first public sector university to build field hospital for corona patients. The hospital was built on very short notice and equipped with all the facilities where doctors and Paramedics from SMC will perform their duties round the clock.

“These are extraordinary times. We could face the single biggest health crisis in living memory,” he said adding that all the staffers have been directed to play their role in testing time.

It is worth mentioning that the Agricultural College and the Medical College of the university is also hosting quarantine centres of 237 beds and 660 beds respectively which is biggest number in any public sector university across the country.
