Sindh anti-riot force to start working in next 3 months

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that miscreants involved in August 22, 2016 attack on media offices in Karachi will be punished according to the law.

“Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhter who is in jail on judicial remand would be given facilities according to law and the jail manual. Local government members would be given all powers under Sindh Local Government Act 2013,” he added.

Addressing a ceremony in which 251 Sindh police officers were promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Central Police Office on Thursday, he said peace in Karachi and rest of the province will be ensured by providing modern training and equipment to police. IG Sindh Police AD Khawaja said it is the first time when large number of police officers are being promoted. He also urged CM Sindh to allocate Rs 100 million as a special fund to treat injured policemen.

Murad Ali Shah said among all provincial departments, Sindh police is getting most of the budget, which is gradually increasing every year. “I am thinking to allocate special budget to the police.”

He said peace is being restored in the province, especially in Karachi, which has witnessed visible drop in street crime. “It is not possible to completely eradicate street crimes.”

Later talking to newsmen, CM said encroachments would not be tolerated. “Its not just that the offices of political parties which were constructed illegally are being demolished.”

He said the Sindh government will actify anti-riots force in the next three months. “Karachi is one the biggest cities where protests are sometime violent and hard to handle, we need special force.”

Chief Minister said to eradicate crime, police is being fully equipped with modern armour. “We will procure modern arms for police in December.”

Lauding services of shaheed officers, jawans, he said they have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Answering a question , he said quota system is “a political matter and will be resolved politically.”
