ISLAMABAD: The disqualification reference against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has now become a political issue rather than a constitutional one, and it is expected that National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s decision in this regard would also be of political nature, sources revealed on Friday. Parliamentary sources told Daily Times that the NA speaker was still considering the reference against Imran Khan, whereas the 30 days deadline on this reference would be completed tomorrow (Sunday).
The NA sources said although 30 days would be completed on Sunday, but decision on the reference may come out on Monday, as Sunday would be a non-working day.
Assembly sources said the matter was not an easy one to decide, adding that the speaker was contemplating on every aspect and evidence on the reference against Imran Khan. Media would be informed as soon as the speaker reaches any conclusions, the sources assured. On the other hand, the question of disqualification of Imran Khan under the Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution was already under discussion on various constitutional forums, including the Election Commission of Pakistan. The speaker would decide keeping in minds all aspects discussed regarding the issue.
