FAISALABAD: A woman committed suicide in Bhowana police area on Sunday. A police official said that the 25-year-old unidentified woman, resident of Chak No 238, was depressed due to financial problems.

He added in sheer frustration, the woman consumed poison and ended her life.

The police shifted the victim’s body to Allied Hospital for legal formalities. However, the police were investigating the case from different angles.

Earlier, a woman had allegedly committed suicide, along with her three daughters, in Multan.

According to the police, 30-year-old Fouzia, along with her three daughters Sabiha, 7, Mehnaz, 5, and Rabia, 3, jumped into a canal in Jhok Wains, Multan, after a dispute with her husband Irfan.

Rescue 1122 recovered three dead bodies while the body of the seven-year-old is still missing, police said. Bodies of Fouzia, Mehnaz, and Rabia have been shifted to Nishtar Hospital.

According to the police, three-year-old Rabia was tied in her mother’s shawl when the deceased were found near Rawan, while Mehnaz’s body was found in Nawab pur.

Irfan, the husband and father of the deceased, identified the bodies of his wife and daughters, according to police officials. An investigation to determine whether the incident was an accident, suicide or intentional murder is still underway.

During the investigation, Irfan said that the said canal is close to his house and his wife made the call to jump into it after the couple had an argument over money.

Irfan, who works as a laborer, said he had been unable to purchase fruits for his daughter due to his low income. “I am a laborer and managing household expenditures in my daily wages was very difficult,” he said. “My wife used to fight with me over this matter”.

Police officials said the bodies of the deceased will remain in their custody till Sabiha’s body is found. They further stated that Irfan and his family would be interrogated to find out reason behind the deaths.
