MARDAN: Former chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, on Sunday condemned the suicide attack on the Mardan district and sessions court.

“Attacks on lawyers are alarming. The government should take serious steps to protect the lawyers and the judiciary,” he said, while talking to reporters at the bar room.

Iftikhar Chaudhry stressed the need of implementing the National Action Plan (NAP), adding that lawyers were the soft targets. The ex-CJ said that common people were being killed while some parties were arranging music shows which was regrettable.

Earlier, the former chief justice visited the District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital and the Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) and inquired about the health of the injured.

He also visited the bar room in Mardan and prayed for the martyred lawyers.
