Sir: Under the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Anti-Dengue Day was observed with great fervour and zeal all across the province to impart knowledge and awareness among the masses against the disease and to sensitise them regarding the precautionary measures to check the dengue breading.
In this connection, awareness walks were arranged by different health department representatives and pamphlets, highlighting important steps to control the spread of disease, were distributed among pedestrians and bickers. All this is a welcome step on the part of government but we need to understand that along with the government, coordinated efforts by the community are essential to control dengue.
Since dengue has become a health and social problem therefore, community participation in anti-dengue measures is inevitable. It is pertinent to mention here that vigorous efforts by the government have resulted in the provision of necessary facilities to dengue patients and in this regard all the arrangements have been made for the treatment of such patients in all public sector hospitals. Since health care of the masses is among the top priorities of the government therefore, it is bent upon paying special attention to prevent the spread of dengue virus. It is hoped that the government will remain sincere in its efforts to curb the menace of dengue virus in order to save the lives of people.
