ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology (IT) on Monday launched digital centres across the country to empower women. Under the project, thousands of young girls would be trained to enhance their employability potential, according to a statement issued on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, parliamentarians, who had come to inaugurate the digital centres at their respective places, thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and IT Minister Anusha Rahman for establishment of these centres. They also expressed hope that through this project, young girls would not only empower themselves for financial sustenance but also the whole community. “Seeing all these centres operational in a minimal possible time by ensuring quality infrastructure was our primary focus. I am grateful to Allah Almighty for providing me the strength to steer forward this project for a very noble purpose of empowering our future through girls and women,” a statement quoted the IT minister as saying. She said that girls and women trained under the said programme would prove to be a great asset for Pakistan. “This is the first phase of the programme and we are rolling out hundreds of such centres in coming months. We are determined to unleash true potential of ‘Digital Pakistan’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif whose vision of proliferating technology for empowering society is guidance for us,” the minister added. Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) Managing Director Abid Sheikh also thanked Premier Nawaz and the IT minister for establishment of digital centres at Baitul Mal-run facilities. He said these centres could enable a large number of girls from less privileged segments of society to help support their families. He assured all-out support to make these centres function smoothly.
