ISLAMABAD: Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) chairman Maulana Sheerani assailed the Nawaz Sharif led-federal government for not incorporating their recommendations into the constitution of Pakistan and alleged that government was breaching its promises and not fulfilling its constitutional obligations.

During the proceeding of the national assembly on Monday , Maulana Sheerani, firebrand speaker of JUI denigrated the federal government and said CII submitted its report containing a glut of recommendations for bring about constitutional amendment with the line of Quran and Sunnah but the government had not given these any importance. As a result, these reports have now become redundant.

The government will make constitutional provisions compatible with the Quran and Sunnah, he observed. He said it was incumbent upon the government to bring ideology council reports to the agenda of the lower chamber of the parliament in order to get the inputs of the parliamentarians so that the some provision could be rehashed in the line of Sunnah.

While drawing the attention of the federal petroleum minister toward corruption allegation of former chairman and members of interstate gas, the parliamentary leader of PPP in the national assembly Syed Naveed Qamar said that gas project executed by incumbent regime are not signs of corruption. Pakistan People party parliamentary leader Syed Qamar quoted an allegation levelled by Shahzad and Zubair Moti wala as ISGS board members, saying that the government has signed billion-dollar gas projects with other countries including LNG import from Qamar that should be probed by independent petroleum experts authorities.

Corroborating Naveed Qamar’s contention, another PPP leader Yousaf Talpure also blasted the government for signing a lot of gas project with the companies whose credentials are already tainted. Talpure also called upon the Speaker to constitute a parliamentary committee with a taskforce to look into the gas projects and said the allegation of former petroleum officers are not hollow and should be thoroughly investigated.

Petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi decried the allegation and said gas projects signed during the Nawaz regime were signed in the greater interests of the nations and all stakeholders were taken into confidence before going to sign these agreements. Khaqan Said Zubair Moti Wala and Shahzada questioned why these two members of ISGS were expelled from the board and added these two personalities had attended 39 board meetings regarding gas projects.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who is already facing NAB inquiry for signing second LNG terminal construction agreement, said that government would investigate the allegation if it contains any solid evidences.

Another fire brand parliamentarian Jamshid Dasti also criticized the government and said rampant corruption was being committed by the present regime, accusing Khawaja Asif for plundering huge amounts from WAPDA by illegal means and leaving the department insolvent. Jamshid Dasti said corruption would corrode the foundation of the country and he also called upon the nation to stand up against the people who plundered their wealth and deposited it in the foreign banks.
