LAHORE: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Tayyab Hafeez Cheema announced on Tuesday that the Punjab Safe City Project (PSCP) would be launched next month in the provincial capital. During his visit to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to attend the LCCI Standing Committee on Internal Trade Affairs meeting, he said that this project would not only improve the security situation of the city but would also help reduce violations of traffic rules. LCCI Standing Committee on Internal Trade Affairs Convener Mujahid Maqsood Butt and other officials of the chambers also spoke on the occasion. CTO Cheema informed the meeting that PSCP would be launched in October, adding that efficient monitoring of the project would be conducted through a control and command centre. He said the traffic police officials would also conduct weekly visits to the city markets. LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed on the occasion said that the chamber would extend maximum help to PSCP besides ensuring its effectiveness in the larger interest of the economy. He said that Lahore has attained the status of international business destination and therefore it should also look like a global capital. Smooth flow of traffic is necessary for timely delivery of goods as well as for effectively conducting business operations. Saeed said that the role of traffic police was vital, as uninterrupted flow of traffic not only gives a disciplined picture of the society but also helps the economy by cutting transportation time. He also stressed on close liaison between the police and the business community. Saeed said that violation of ban on protests and rallies on The Mall was also causing massive traffic problems, seeking help from the CTO in this regard.
