On Monday morning daily wage workers in Karachi’s Korangi tried to break into the district commissioner’s office on Monday demanding rations from the government.
As the provincial lockdown in Sindh has entered its eighth day, the daily wagers have been sitting at home and their frustration reached on peek, which forced them out on to the streets. A crowd of these workers held anti-government protests in Korangi.
A guy who used to run a canteen in a private school told that what a joke is this as Government promised to deliver the ration at door step and after being 15 days just they are giving us nothing even they have taken CNIC copy and cell number but yet no response.
While people who were standing there said that in whole Karcahi Deputy commissioners have included PPP and PTI local leaders in the relief committees that had been formed at the union committee levels to provide rations to the needy people during the lockdown.
An old citizen demanded that free rations must be distributed through security forces so that the poor suffering from the lockdown are able to receive them.
In Ibrahim Hyderi, hundreds of people, including women and children, organised a protest demanding ration distributions to the fishermen who have not been allowed to work in the lockdown.
Daily Times learnt that Korangi, Landhi and Malir are the area which have been the most affected due to the lockdown as many of them are daily-wage workers, street hawkers and rickshaw drivers
On the other hand, Official in DC office korangi said that they have taken the details of the workers through the new mobile app and money will be transferred into their accounts soon.
According to Sources last day deputy commissioner Korangi had a meeting with local bodies members in which he disclosed that we may provide 100 bags to every area, a representative from Bhittai Colony who was in meeting asked for 300 rations but he was refused to handover not more than 100 bags.
It was learnt that daily wage workers and low-income people in very stressed ever since the lockdown was imposed across the province as a precautionary measure to contain the coronavirus spread.
