LAHORE: As many as 20 leading exporters were awarded best performance trophies at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Export Trophy Ceremony on Wednesday.

The event was held at the Chief Minister’s House. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who was also the former president of LCCI, distributed trophies among the winners.

The top three winners included Group Director of Maple Leaf Cement, Yahya Hamid, who received the Chief Minister Trophy, Chief Executive of Nisar Spinning Millis, Mian Tariq Nisar, who won the LCCI Golden Trophy and CEO of Royal Leather Industries, Agha Saidan, who received the Export Compliance Trophy. Several other notable businessmen received Export Brand and Export Performance trophies.

Speaking at the event, the chief minister said that the country’s economy had improved and now the foreign investors were also showing interest to invest in Pakistan. LCCI Senior Vice-President Almas Hyder also spoke on the event and said that the existing industrial estates in Pakistan were not enough to cater the need of industrialisation.

He said that the Punjab government should establish new industrial zones and extend zero-rated status to more sectors so that Pakistan could get its due share in the global trade.

He also informed the chief minister that a delegation had recently visited Iran and found that there was a lot of potential for Pakistani textile products and meat, in the Iranian market. He said that this opportunity should be availed to the maximum through joint efforts.
